Please Don't Turn Me Into DCFS

Ask any mother what their worst nightmare is, and it will go a little something like this. It has taken me awhile to re-tell this story. But I am finally to the point where I can laugh at it......kind of.
The other day Bennett and I went to Target. He was asleep in his car seat, down in the basket of the cart. I had crouched down to look for something on the bottom shelf, leaving my cart right behind me. When I turned around my cart was gone, baby and all. Of course I panicked. I ran to the end of the isle, heading to the front door to have the rent-a-cop lock it. As I was on my way I saw a teenage kid, on his cell phone, pushing my cart. He had black shaggy hair, tattoos, and a number of piercings. Judging on his looks, he kind of looked like a baby-napper. Just as I saw him, he realized he had the wrong cart. With a look of horror on his face from just realizing he had accidentally wheeled off with a baby, he hung up his phone in a hurry. With tears in my eyes I grabbed my cart, not able to speak. The poor kid quickly started in, "I am so Sorry. It was an accident, I promise. I am so sorry". I replied back with the only word I could find, "You scared me, you scared me so bad." Due to my nervousness, my volume was high I'm sure. The whole event was over a matter of seconds but felt like hours. Although it was an accident on both our parts, I am still so mad at myself for letting it happen, but you better believe I have learned my lesson. From now on, whenever I am in public I always have a hand, foot or eye on my cart at all times.

I can't imagine the panic....ahhh! I'm glad he was a nice dude. That reminds me of a time when the power went out while shopping at Target, Tyler was like 4 months, it was pitch black for a few minutes. Not NEAR as bad as your story but still scary. I love your card of the month by the way!

Yikes! I wouldn't of even thought to go to the front to have them lock the doors! That is really good thinking if it were a more serious incident. Who knows what millions of different thoughts would have gone through my head if that were me... probably nothing that would be helpful like that. Have you been back to Target since then?

I seriously wonder what that kid was thinking? Anyone would have done what you've done but I think I will have to be more careful about that too. CRAZY!!!
