If this occurs, let me insincerely apologize ahead of time because I will be rude to you! Or, if you want to be an extra great human, please just obey the sign I have asking you not to solicit in the first place. I promise I do not want to buy, trial or donate ANYTHING.

i hate solicitors too. we get them at the salon ALL the time. i don't think they can read the signs very well.
You should put that up on your door.
Actually, I know a number of people who put a little note on their doorbell that says "Please knock" and it's taped over the doorbell so that you can't miss it. You could try that.
